Virtual Reality (VR)
It’s basically quite simple: “Virtual reality” (VR) refers to a digital world created on the computer. This can be a reflection of reality or spring from one’s own imagination. Virtual reality has no relation to the environment in which you are currently located. In the broadest sense, a computer game in which you can move freely (open world) is nothing more than a virtual reality.
Augmented Reality (AR)
On German called “augmented reality” is an interplay of digital content and the real “analogue” world. You are not completely isolated from the normal environment. The real world is only supplemented with additional (digital) content. The best-known example of this is probably the game: Pokemon Go. Augmented reality can also refer to reality. For example, a warehouse worker can be shown on which shelf a spare part is to be found.
Mixed Reality (MR) & XR
Fundamentally, these are other terms for AR and VR, where mixed reality is considered synonymous with augmented reality and XR is the attempt to summarize the entire technology division in one word. The R stands for Reality and X stands for the variable that serves as a placeholder for V, M or A.
VR and AR glasses
In order to have access to the extended and virtual world, XR glasses are state of the art. However, this does not mean that glasses are absolutely necessary. Any VR and AR applications can easily be operated with a smartphone or tablet. In most cases, the applications are primarily optimized for this.

Reality with additional content
Think of AR as an enrichment of the real world. Any real things can be provided with additional content using AR. This can be, for example, the display of additional information.
See places you can’t see
Have you always wanted to see the inside of a running engine? VR makes this possible. True to the motto that a picture is worth a thousand words, VR applications can show things attractively.
Exclude hazards
Whether you are standing in the middle of the highway, next to a power line or inside a nuclear power plant. Thanks to VR, such places can be visited safely and are accessible to everyone. This is particularly suitable for training courses.

Questions & Answers
How is the content created?
There are several ways to create content. Basically, a distinction is made between 2D and 3D technologies. The contents can be created completely on the computer or photographed resp. can be appointed.
Are VR or AR glasses dangerous?
No, XR applications are not dangerous. Previous problems with the technology that triggered VR disease have been fixed. Furthermore, many VR glasses have sensors that warn of obstacles in the real world.
What is meant by immersion?
Immersion describes the effect caused by VR that the consciousness or resp. Users’ knowledge of being exposed to illusory stimulation moves so far into the background that the virtual world is perceived as real. But don’t worry, as far as in Inception we are not 😉 yet
Isn't this technique complex?
No, the technology is mature and extremely user-friendly. With XR applications, usability has a high priority, the applications can usually even be operated intuitively.
