Web Based Training
Web-based training or web-based training (WBT) is any form of training or training. Training, which takes place computer-aided. Such training courses often take place online. However, the training can also take place via the intranet or locally on the end device. Other terms include Internet-based training (IBT), e-learning or distance learning. WBT are defined in particular by the fact that they enable unprecedented flexibility – learning takes place independently of time and space.
WBT Species
There are almost no limits to the development of a WBT. The learning units consist at least of simple texts and images. These can be extended by interactions, animations, speaker texts and much more, up to complex scenarios or simulations with extensive decision-making options. More complex WBT also like to follow a story.

WBT Authoring Tools
Nowadays, WBT are created using software programs. There is already a large selection of providers. Our favorite programs include Articulate and Captivate. Furthermore, we also create learning units with our own WBT framework, which is integrated into our own LMS.
Use Cases of WBT
OnBoarding
New employees have large knowledge gaps to close. With e-learning, however, employees are quickly up to date and thus reduce the costs for fluctuation and retraining.
Certification
Through learning controls, certificates based on predefined goals or Criteria (e.B. industry standards) are issued, which serve as confirmation both internally and externally.
Product Training
Employees and sales partners can be kept up to date quickly and easily by means of e-learning, regardless of location. You can independently inform yourself about new products and upgrades.
Software Training
New computer programs can best be trained by means of e-learning recordings.
Advantages of WBT
Flexibility
The biggest advantage is that web-based learning can take place independently of place and time. Furthermore, employees can progress at their own pace of learning.
Cost effectiveness
Web-based learning makes it possible to learn decentrally. As a result, there are no travel costs and no travel time. Furthermore, WBT are easily scalable.
Higher learning potential
Everyone has their own learning style. By means of e-learning, it is possible to address any type of learner, whereby most people learn best when the learning content is presented to them in multimedia. In this way, the information is captured through multiple sensory channels, which significantly improves the learning curve.
Control
E-learning gives apprentices and trainers more control. Instructors can monitor and control learning progress. As a result, the learning needs can be identified at an early stage and reacted to in good time. Learners, on the other hand, have the control that they can decide for themselves in which order they work through the individual programs. Furthermore, by means of simple learning controls, employees can be offered the opportunity to skip theory blocks if the knowledge is already available or. the learning control is passed.
By the way, a general rule in psychology says that adults are especially motivated when you feel like you’re in control of their workout.
WBT in Distance Learning
E-learning does not necessarily have to mean that the entire training is “digital”. We distinguish three main types of web-based training.
Synchronous web-based training
Analogous to a classroom training, the training here is accompanied by a trainer and includes real-time interactions with the learners. However, learners and trainers are online at the same time. However, these do not necessarily have to be in the same place. Examples include online tutoring, webinars, streaming lectures or conference calls.
Asynchronous web-based training
Here, the lessons take place purely digitally. Learners can go through the training programs at their own pace and according to their own available time. This offers participants maximum flexibility. There are no real-time interactions with the instructor or other learners. However, a (staggered) interaction can take place via group chat or similar. Examples include e-learning courses, video tutorials, readings or recorded lectures and seminars.
Mixed format
The two formats are combined. For example, the theory can be developed in self-study and at a later date the results are presented to everyone else and the trainer.
